Lucid Motors claims that its new Lucid Air, known as the "Tesla Killer", beat the Tesla Model S in a quarter-mile race (about 400 meters), to cross the road. Distance in 9.9 seconds.

The company has been publishing information about its luxury electric car for several weeks in preparation for the big launch this month.

The company first claimed that the car would have a huge range of 800 km on a single charge.

Then they said it would be "the fastest electric car ever to be charged".

And now Lucid comes to announce her supremacy over Tesla in the speed test.

The company says its Lucid Air, with a powertrain of more than 1,000 horsepower, sprints from zero to 100 kilometers per hour in just 2.5 seconds.

The company says the car covered a quarter mile, with an experienced driver behind the wheel, in less than 10 seconds.

Lucid Motor went so far as to claim that its race made it the "fastest sedan in the world".

Tesla's Model S took the race with a specialized powertrain by 0.7 seconds longer, according to the Motor Trend Report, while the Porsche Taycan Turbo S 2020 took 0.6 seconds longer to finish the race than the Lucid.

Lucid Air is due to make his big stage debut with an online event next week.
