Four good news in two days for Hualong No.1: New approval for new construction, first batch of materials, successful overseas hot test

China's three-generation million-kilowatt pressurized water reactor nuclear power technology Hualong No. 1 with completely independent intellectual property rights has been reported frequently this week, and many domestic and foreign projects have ushered in key nodes.

New projects have been approved, new units have started construction, the world’s first reactor has begun to be loaded, and the first overseas reactor has been successfully tested. Coupled with the two Hualong No. 1 projects approved last year, independent third-generation nuclear power technology has gradually entered batches from the demonstration project stage. The construction period.

As a self-developed third-generation nuclear power technology, Hualong No. 1 and the high-speed rail are collectively referred to as the "national name card".

Hualong No. 1 is a comprehensive manifestation of China's nuclear industry's nuclear power technology design, procurement, installation, commissioning, and operation capabilities, and is of great significance to driving the upgrading of domestic nuclear power equipment manufacturing.

According to The Paper (www.thepaper.cn), in the face of the sudden challenge of the new crown pneumonia epidemic, although the progress of the world’s first reactor of the Hualong No. 1 in Fuqing, Fujian is lagging behind the plan at the beginning of the year, the construction is progressing steadily. Smoothly, grid-connected power generation can still be achieved within this year, which is really not easy.

Once realized, this will also become the world's first third-generation nuclear power project completed on schedule.

Two new projects using Hualong No. 1 technology were approved

Under the background of "six stability" and "six guarantees", China has restarted nuclear power approval.

Premier Li Keqiang of the State Council presided over an executive meeting of the State Council on September 2 to approve the Hainan Changjiang Nuclear Power Phase II project and the Zhejiang San'ao Nuclear Power Phase I project.

The meeting pointed out that actively and steadily promoting the construction of nuclear power projects is an important measure to expand effective investment, enhance energy support, and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

The meeting approved the Hainan Changjiang Nuclear Power Phase II project, which has been included in the planning, qualified, and adopts the "Hualong No. 1" third-generation nuclear power technology, and the Zhejiang San'ao Nuclear Power Phase I project, which was invested by private capital for the first time.

The total effective investment of the two projects exceeds 70 billion yuan, which will drive a large number of jobs.

The meeting called for strengthening the research on the shortcomings of nuclear energy, insisting on safety first and quality first, consolidating the main responsibility of enterprise safety, strengthening engineering construction and operation supervision, and ensuring foolproof.

Large nuclear power projects have always been a weapon to stabilize growth and control the atmosphere.

Nuclear power plants are high-tech products with a large one-time investment and long construction period. During the construction process, a large amount of mechanical and electrical equipment, as well as a large number of construction, construction, installation and design technical services are required, and they can directly or indirectly provide a large number of new jobs to the whole society. opportunity.

A press conference of the National Energy Administration in July 2019 disclosed that as of the end of June of that year, nuclear power projects in Shandong Rongcheng, Zhangzhou, Fujian and Taipingling, Guangdong had been approved, which broke the three-year “zero approval” of domestic new conventional nuclear power plants. status.

After that, nuclear power approval went through a quiet period of more than a year, until the Changjiang and San'ao projects were approved.

Both the Hainan Changjiang Nuclear Power Phase II project and the Zhejiang Sanao Nuclear Power Phase I project will use the fusion version of Hualong No. 1 technology.

Among them, Changjiang Phase II, located in Changjiang Li Autonomous County, Hainan Province, is still a cooperative project between Huaneng Group and China Nuclear Power Group, with Huaneng Group as the controlling shareholder.

The Wenzhou San'ao project in southern Zhejiang was developed by China General Nuclear Power Group, and Zheneng Power and other four shareholders participated in the development, construction and operation of the San'ao nuclear power project company, China General Nuclear Power Cangnan Nuclear Power Co., Ltd.

Hualong begins to load the world's first stack, taking a critical step towards production

China National Nuclear Corporation announced that on the afternoon of September 4, the Ministry of Ecology and Environment issued a license for operation of Fuqing Nuclear Power Unit 5 to China National Nuclear Corporation Fujian Fuqing Nuclear Power Co., Ltd. in Beijing.

At 15:30 on the same day, the first fuel loading of Hualong No. 1 in the world’s first reactor of China National Nuclear Corporation's Fuqing Nuclear Power Unit 5 officially began. With the smooth entry of the first group of fuel assemblies, it marked the unit’s entry into the nuclear commissioning phase of the main system. An important step was taken when it was completed and put into production.

The first charging is one of the most important links before the grid-connected power generation and commercial transportation of nuclear power projects. At this stage, brand-new nuclear fuel assemblies are loaded into the reactor core, which is the demarcation point between nuclear and non-nuclear tests in nuclear power projects. .

After the charging is completed, the nuclear power unit needs to conduct series tests of reactor criticality, unit grid connection, and 50% and 87% power platforms. Finally, it will be put into commercial operation after 168 hours of full power trial operation.

Units 1-4 of the Fuqing Nuclear Power Base were put into commercial operation from November 2008 to September 2017, and the four units have accumulated more than 130 billion kWh of electricity.

Units 5 and 6 adopted independent nuclear power technology and started construction on May 7 and December 22, 2015 respectively.

Among them, Fuqing Nuclear Power Unit 5 is the world's first reactor of Hualong No. 1 and has attracted the attention of the outside world.

Since the beginning of this year, the participating units of the Hualong No. 1 Fuqing Demonstration Project have coordinated the promotion of epidemic prevention and control and safe production, and have successively completed the thermal performance test of Unit 5, the double-layer containment test, the residence test of the main control room, and the outside of Unit 6 Dome hoisting, etc.

In the past ten years or so, safer and more economical third-generation nuclear power technologies have generally been adopted in nuclear power construction worldwide.

The first reactor is a process of transforming the innovative design of a new nuclear power technology into engineering practice. Because it is the first practice, the construction of the first reactor of the world's third-generation nuclear power is mostly delayed.

At present, it seems that the world's first reactor of Hualong-1 is still basically advancing according to the established timetable.

The new Hualong unit starts construction

China Nuclear Power Co., Ltd. (China Nuclear Power, 601985), a listed company under China National Nuclear Corporation, announced on the evening of September 4 that the No. 2 unit of China Nuclear Guodian Zhangzhou Energy Co., Ltd., which was invested by the company, had poured the first tank of concrete on the nuclear island ( FCD), marking the official start of construction of the unit.

The announcement also disclosed that Zhangzhou Nuclear Power Unit 1 started construction on October 16, 2019, and the current construction is progressing smoothly, and major milestones in the project have been achieved as planned.

Zhangzhou Nuclear Power Plant plans to build 6 million-kilowatt third-generation nuclear power units. The 2 units of the first phase of the project will use the Hualong No. 1 fusion technology.

In the first phase of the project, a number of design improvements and optimizations were carried out on the basis of the reference power station, which further improved the safety and economy of the unit.

After Zhangzhou Nuclear Power Unit 2 started, the number of units under construction by China Nuclear Power Holdings was 6 units, including four Hualong units: the world’s first demonstration project Fuqing Nuclear Power Units 5 and 6 and marked the start of mass construction of Hualong 1 Zhangzhou Nuclear Power Unit No. 1 and 2.

Successful overseas first reactor hot test

Following the start of the world's first pile, the construction progress of the first overseas pile of Hualong No. 1 also received good news.

On September 4, local time, the K-2 unit of Karachi Nuclear Power in Pakistan completed the cooling and pressure reduction of the primary circuit, marking the successful conclusion of the K-2 unit's thermal performance test, laying a solid foundation for subsequent major nodes such as assembly materials and grid-connected power generation. basis.

The hot test is a major link in the construction of nuclear power projects. It is another time for the sealing and welding quality of reactor coolant system equipment, pipelines, and related system design, manufacturing, and installation quality levels when the nuclear reactor has not been loaded with nuclear fuel. Comprehensive inspection.

During the hot test, the real operating conditions of the nuclear power plant are simulated to verify the reliability of the main equipment and systems operating under hot conditions.

In layman's terms, what the hot test simulates is the normal operation of a nuclear power plant, but there is no nuclear fuel in it.

Compared with the cold test temperature of 35-70 degrees Celsius, the hot test temperature is close to 300 degrees Celsius.

Since there is no nuclear fuel, how to achieve such a high temperature?

The hot test is a comprehensive combination of the operation of the main pump and the commissioning of the electric heater of the voltage stabilizer to increase the temperature and pressure of the reactor coolant system to the hot shutdown condition, and perform a series of debugging tests on each specific test platform, and run regular tests. Experimental phase.

This stage simulates various thermal conditions of nuclear power plants as much as possible to verify the reliability of nuclear islands, conventional island equipment and systems in thermal operation, and whether the relevant parameters meet the design requirements.

On August 31, local time, the outer containment dome of the Karachi Nuclear Power K-3 unit, which also adopted Hualong No. 1 technology, was successfully hoisted in place, and the main structure of the nuclear power plant has been completed.

The Hualong No. 1 overseas project was undertaken by China National Nuclear Corporation China Zhongyuan Foreign Engineering Co., Ltd.

Hualong No. 1 is approved and the projects under construction are fully scanned

So far, the total number of Hualong No. 1 units under construction and approved in China has reached 12 units, which are:

China Nuclear Power Fuqing Nuclear Power (units 5 and 6), China General Nuclear Power Fangchenggang Nuclear Power (units 3 and 4), China Nuclear Power Zhangzhou Nuclear Power (units 1 and 2), CGN Taipingling Nuclear Power (units 1 and 2), Huaneng Changjiang Nuclear Power (3 , Unit 4), China Guangdong Nuclear Power San'ao Nuclear Power (Unit 1, 2).

Except for the two demonstration projects in Fuqing and Fangchenggang, the follow-up units all adopted Hualong fusion technology.

Hualong No.1 is based on more than 30 years of nuclear power research, design, manufacturing, construction and operation experience of China National Nuclear Corporation and China General Nuclear Power Group, invested a lot of energy, fully borrowed from the advanced concepts of international third-generation nuclear power technology, and learned from the feedback from the Fukushima nuclear accident. , Adopting the independent third-generation nuclear power technology developed and designed in cooperation with the highest international safety standards.

The safety and performance indicators of Hualong No.1 have reached the advanced level of the third-generation nuclear power technology in the world, and make full use of China’s current mature nuclear power equipment manufacturing system. It has good economic efficiency and is one of the main models for China’s nuclear power industry to "go global". One.

In 2015, the domestic demonstration project of Hualong No. 1 was implemented in two lines of China Nuclear Power Fuqing Nuclear Power Base and China Guangdong Nuclear Power Fangchenggang Nuclear Power Base.

Five years later, Hualong No. 1 nuclear power unit landed in five domestic provinces and went overseas.

Pakistan is the first stop of the Hualong No. 1 "going to sea".

The Karachi nuclear power project (K-2, K-3) using Hualong No. 1 is the largest nuclear power project in Pakistan at present. The site is located on the coast of the Arabian Sea, near Karachi, Pakistan, about 900 kilometers away from the Pakistani capital Islamabad.

China National Nuclear Corporation and Pakistan also signed a business contract for Chashma Nuclear Power Unit 5 in 2017. This is the third nuclear power unit that Hualong No. 1 "goes out" and the 7th nuclear power unit exported by China to Pakistan.

In September 2016, China General Nuclear Power, EDF and the British government signed a package agreement for a new nuclear power project in the UK. The Chinese consortium led by China General Nuclear Power will jointly invest in the construction of the Hinkley Point C nuclear power project in the United Kingdom with EDF, and jointly promote Sideswell C And Bradwell B, two major follow-up nuclear power projects.

According to the agreement, Hualong No. 1 will be applied to the Bradwell B project in the United Kingdom after passing the British general design review, which will be led by China General Nuclear Power.

In February of this year, China General Nuclear Power announced that the British universal design review of Hualong One had entered the final stage.
