SOS was alerted just before 14 about a house fire in Gummark outside Skellefteå.

When the rescue service arrived at the scene, the house burned to the ground and flames burst through the windows.

The fire was caused by thunder in the house.

- The lightning struck the ceiling and then the windows on the glazing and in the living room broke.

We were there quickly, but even then it burned out through the windows, says Henrik Lindgren, operations manager at the rescue service in Skellefteå.

The house was timbered and could not be saved.

- It is completely destroyed, the roof has collapsed, Lindgren says.

Was anyone home when the thunder struck the house?

- No, fortunately no one was home then.

The rescue service had the fire under control at 5 pm, but will stay and monitor the situation most of the night.
