It was one morning at the end of August that more than 10,000 laying hens were loaded on a truck bed to be transported to the slaughterhouse.

But in the middle of the journey, hundreds of hens were thrown by the truck bed on highway 40 between Forserum and Jönköping.

The driver was later suspected by the police of having anchored the load too badly and also driving too fast.

Fooled death

Several of the hens died in the crash when the cages fell off the platform.

Other hens had to be killed directly on the spot.

The hens that managed to survive were transported to the slaughterhouse.

But four poultry managed to hide in a bush and thus survived both fall and slaughter.

The person who found the frightened hens was Peter, a friend of Chistine Fransson in Granemåla.

- I got a picture of them sitting in a trailer and when I saw the picture I wrote that those chickens are going here, says Christine Fransson in Granemåla.

Move to Blekinge

Even though she does not have hens before, the hens were allowed to move into the farm.

Now they have taken a seat in a box in the stable waiting for a chicken farm.

- There is room and love for them here.

It is clear that they are going here, says Christine Fransson.

Shocked and upset, they have adapted to their new life in Blekinge.

They both eat, drink and lay.

In the evening, they all sit in a row on the stick under the heat lamp.

And in the yard they are allowed to stay.

- They're not going anywhere.

They should be here, she says.

All four poultry have now also been named, inspired by their savior.

- Everyone is named Petra after Peter, the savior.

It's a little difficult to see the difference between them so it's Petra for the whole penny, says Christine Fransson.
