Abul-Gheit condemns the declaration of Serbia and Kosovo of their intention to open embassies in occupied Jerusalem

While the Arab foreign ministers will discuss developments of the Palestinian issue and the Turkish and Iranian interventions next Wednesday, during the work of the 154th session of the League of Arab States Council, the Secretary-General of the League, Ahmed Abul Gheit, condemned Serbia and Kosovo's declaration of their intention to open their embassies to Israel in occupied Jerusalem, stressing that This procedure is "invalid" and is in violation of international legitimacy resolutions related to the Palestinian cause.

In detail, the work of the 154th session of the Arab League Council will start tomorrow, Monday, at the level of permanent delegates “in attendance” to prepare for the work of that session at the level of Arab foreign ministers on September 9th, under the chairmanship of Palestine.

The League’s Assistant Secretary-General, Ambassador Hussam Zaki, said that the permanent delegates ’meetings will be devoted to preparing and preparing for the meetings of the Arab foreign ministers regarding the draft agenda and draft decisions related to them, and submitting them to the foreign ministers for discussion and approval.

He added that the draft agenda includes a number of political, security, social, health and administrative items of interest to joint Arab action, foremost among which are the developments of the Palestinian cause in light of recent developments.

Zaki explained that the council will also discuss Turkish and Iranian interventions in the internal affairs of Arab countries, developments in Libya and the rest of the political crises in the Arab arena, as well as social and health issues, including Arab cooperation in the field of confronting the "Covid-19" pandemic.

This comes at a time when a statement issued by the General Secretariat of the Arab League said yesterday that the Secretary-General of the League, Ahmed Abul-Gheit, expressed deep annoyance and condemnation of the step that was announced on the fourth of September with the opening of both Kosovo and Serbia embassies in the occupied city of Jerusalem.

Abul-Gheit explained, "This procedure is invalid and contravenes the resolutions of international legitimacy, international law and Security Council resolutions that prohibit countries from transferring their embassies to Jerusalem, as it has been under occupation since 1967."

The statement reaffirmed the university’s firm position, which considers Jerusalem to be one of the topics of negotiation.
