On Saturday, the campaign "Sailing for the climate" is organized in Lysekil.

About 30 boats and about 20 kayaks have gathered to show their dissatisfaction with Preem's planned expansion, which, if built, will greatly increase carbon dioxide emissions in Sweden.

Greenpeace is also in place with its 60 meter long action ship Rainbow warrior III.

"Fully respects"

Preem's press manager, Dani Backteg, says that they had contact with the police before the operation.

- The information we have received is that it has been stated that it will not be anything other than a manifestation and then we would like to believe that it applies.

We fully respect that everyone should be allowed to express their opinion or thoughts as long as you do not hurt anyone or anything, he says.

Are your opportunities to expand from these actions affected?

- It is a legal and political process that is ongoing and we have received positive information from all courts.

We also have a good dialogue with politicians and we think we have good arguments to get an environmental permit.

The municipality is positive

At the same time, Lysekil municipality is now in favor of an expansion.

The municipality has a veto right to say no to the plans, but the municipal board decided on Thursday to recommend the government to say yes to the expansion.

The final decision will be made in the council on 16 September.

The discussion about Preem's expansion has been protracted.

As recently as last summer, the Supreme Land and Environmental Court gave the green light for the expansion and now the issue is finally with the government, which is expected to take a position later this year.

MP says no

On Saturday, the environmental party's climate policy spokesperson, Lorenz Tovatt, stated that the party intends to say no to the planned expansion of the oil refinery in Lysekil.

- The important thing now is that the government somehow stops this expansion, he told Swedish Radio Ekot.

Dani Backteg does not want to comment on what role this will play for Preem's future plans.

- I do not want to review individual parties or representatives.

We want to continue to have a dialogue, says Dani Backteg.
