Physical violence against children topped the list of cases recorded by the General Department of Human Rights in Dubai Police during the past year, with 38 cases, followed by child abuse, 29 out of 155 cases.

For his part, the Director of the Women and Child Protection Department, Brigadier General Aref Baqer Ahli, said that the types of cases recorded against children that the department monitored varied over the past year, and included 38 cases of physical violence, followed by child abuse with 29 cases, 19 cases of sexual abuse, and 16 cases. Failure to obtain identification papers, 16 cases of neglect in the right to education, the same for neglect of family rights, 13 cases of exposing a child to homelessness or leaving him without supervision or abandonment, and eight cases of health neglect.

He added that children from 11 to 18 years old topped the list of cases recorded by the administration during the past year, followed by age groups from six to 10 years old, by 52 cases, then 34 cases for children up to five years old.

He pointed out that the parents topped the list of the perpetrators of these cases, with 75 cases, then the mother, 37 cases, and 16 cases due to other people, while three cases were recorded in schools, and three cases in which children caused harm to others.

For her part, Fatima Al-Kindi, head of the Social Support Department, said that the department's role is very important in containing problems before they escalate or escalate between their parties, pointing out that there are “cases of parents who resort to the police against their children, and deal with them as delinquents, and there is no hope of reforming them. But when we sit with our children and communicate with them calmly, we find them committed, and perhaps more disciplined than their families.

She emphasized that the core of the problem in most of these cases is choosing the inappropriate way to communicate with the son, adding that the department seeks to bridge points of view, and focus on advice that unites the family and does not separate it.

She added that, on the other hand, there are children - especially in adolescence - who behave with a degree of prejudice towards their parents, and misunderstand their rights stipulated in the Child Law, such as a girl who transgressed against her parents, believing that the law does justice to her, pointing out that the administration is keen to educate both parties and explain the rights And duties for each of them.

Regarding the department's role since the outbreak of the Corona epidemic and the consequent compulsory stay at home during the period of implementing the national sterilization program, Fatima Al-Kindi said that the work team has not stopped its role, and was keen to provide telephone consultations around the clock, especially in light of the increased friction between The two sides of the dispute and summoning previous accumulations, pointing out that in return it reflected positively on some families that had experienced previous problems, as each party discovered positive qualities that he was not aware of in the other, which contributed to containing the differences and providing new opportunities.
