The investigation advanced after the discovery of the lifeless body of an octogenarian by her neighbors in July in Bressuire, in Deux-Sèvres.

Two men were indicted and imprisoned after the murder of Simone Reveau, 84, a source familiar with the matter said on Friday.

A suspicion of rape

Aged 22 and 29, these two residents of Bressuirais, originally from Mayotte, were indicted for "murder preceded, accompanied or followed by another crime" according to this source.

The victim was found wrapped in an oilcloth and lying under the dining room table.

According to the Poitiers prosecutor's office, the autopsy made it possible to determine the hypothesis of death by asphyxiation and to note traces of beatings.

Sources close to the investigation, the octogenarian was also raped.

Contacted by an AFP correspondent, the prosecution did not wish to communicate on Friday on the case.
