Beirut Explosion 160 schools damaged UNESCO asks each country for support September 4 17:13

It's been four days and a month since the massive explosion in Beirut, the capital of Lebanon, in the Middle East.

According to UNESCO, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, the number of schools whose buildings were damaged by this explosion is 160, and countries are calling for assistance.

Under these circumstances, last month UNESCO summarized the damage situation to education.



According to that, the explosion caused damage such as building destruction at 160 elementary schools and junior high schools, affecting 85,000 children and students.



The explosion in Beirut prevented them from attending school at least this month, and due to the new coronavirus, it is feared that learning will be delayed further due to the prolonged period when students cannot attend school.



UNESCO Secretary-General Azure, who visited the site on the 27th of last month, showed that UNESCO will fund 40 of these schools in a hurry to rebuild and continue to support the affected students. It was



UNESCO is calling for assistance to each country, saying that it needs $22 million for the entire education sector and over JPY 2.3 billion for the Japanese yen, including the rebuilding of schools.
