The Abu Dhabi Agriculture and Food Safety Authority has set six measures to prevent consumers from contracting food poisoning incidents known as "food poisoning" at home, the most important of which is the necessity to separate raw and cooked foods inside the "refrigerator", and avoid eating raw or undercooked animal products.

The authority warned of the danger of some individuals tasting any of the foods of questionable validity or contamination, in the home refrigerator, stressing that it is not possible to ensure that the food is free of bacteria that cause food contamination through the sense of smell or taste.

In detail, the Abu Dhabi Agriculture and Food Safety Authority called on consumers to follow the rules for storing foodstuffs at home properly, in order to prevent the occurrence of "food poisoning", stressing that many families do not pay the necessary attention to the process of storing food, which may expose their members to risks.

The authority stated, during an awareness video about “the dangers of food poisoning”, broadcast on its official page on the social networking platform “Twitter”, that the correct storage of foodstuffs starts from the first moment of purchase, right up to the refrigerator and storage places at home, indicating that the correct methods are followed. Storage cuts off the path to bacteria and paralyzes their movement, especially since their sources are multiple: (pests, food, humans, excreta, dirt, and water), and their division occurs when food, heat and moisture are available over time.

The authority stressed the need to follow six procedures, to avoid household food poisoning incidents, the first of which is the necessity to separate raw and cooked foods inside the "refrigerator", and properly dissolve food products to prevent the spread of bacteria, avoid eating raw or poorly cooked animal products, and not eating raw milk. Cold, to avoid the possibility of transmitting any contaminants in it.

The list of preventive measures included not tasting any of the foods in the refrigerator, in case there are any doubts about its validity or contamination, especially as it is not possible to ensure that the food is free from the bacteria that cause food contamination through the senses of smell or taste, and finally, the need to adhere to tightly closing the food Suspect, and tossed in the main garbage bin outside the house.

The authority indicated that there are seven main and uncomplicated methods for the home storage of foodstuffs, which should be taken into account when purchasing any food product, the most important of which is to verify the food label and its information, such as the date of production and expiration date, to ensure food safety, stressing the importance of ensuring that shopping is balanced, especially During occasions, and as needed to ensure that food is not overcrowded in storage areas and in refrigerators.

The authority called for ensuring that the temperatures of the refrigerators are, always, less than five degrees Celsius for cooling, and less than 18 degrees Celsius for freezing, and in the absence of a thermometer in the refrigerator, one must be purchased to ensure that the preserved food is safe, explaining that when opening and using packages of materials Dry food (eg rice, pulses) should be transferred to clean, sealed packages with a label.

She drew attention to the need to store dry foodstuffs in a well-ventilated room, on shelves or in clean cabinets, away from direct sunlight, and to separate "meat, poultry, eggs and seafood" from other foods in the refrigerator to ensure that the food is not contaminated, and finally, cleanliness must be maintained. Food preparation and preparation areas, as well as places to store food products, to prevent the reproduction and spread of insects and rodents.

She stressed the necessity of observing six criteria when choosing cutting boards, including: “They must be washable, rust-proof, durable, and non-toxic to ensure their preservation in a safe condition, and include the phrase (suitable for contact with food), and bear the approved emblem from the Emirates Authority for Standardization and Metrology,” Or any other sign approved by the Authority, and that it includes instructions for use and warnings, and that the instructions are in clear writing.
