Farmer Louis works in the fields just outside Epernay, but when he cuts down grapes and just leaves them on the ground.

"Most serious crisis ever"

Champagne producers have agreed to produce less wine this year, so that the market does not become oversaturated and prices fall.

This spring, when large parts of the world closed down, sales fell by about 80 percent in France and 60 percent globally.  

- The champagne region has had crises before, but none as serious as this one, says Cedric Moussé, whose family has been producing champagne for 12 generations.
