The prize is awarded by Sveriges Arkitekter and HSB Riksförbund to the municipality in the country that has succeeded best in combining a relatively high level of housing construction with good conditions for developing the architecture.

- It is fantastic fun to get this type of attention for the purposeful and long-term work that the city planning committee does.

We have a good collaboration internally with a well-functioning administration and externally with our developers and contractors who are based in Karlstad.

This means that we have been able to work with forward-looking design issues, plan land at a fast pace and grant building permits so that the city can develop and grow for the benefit of both Karlstad residents and the visitor.

This award is a confirmation that we are doing a good job, says Erik Nilsson (KD), chairman of the city planning committee in a press release.

The award is based partly on survey responses from Sveriges Arkitekter's members and on official statistics where the ability to plan construction in relation to population development and how well these plans are implemented is evaluated.
