On the 3rd local time, the Japan Coast Guard stated that a crew member on the cargo ship was rescued.

  The Japan Coast Guard said that the cargo ship sent a distress signal at about 1:45 am local time on the 2nd.

The location of the signal was in the sea about 185 kilometers west of Amami Oshima, Kagoshima Prefecture.

The Japan Meteorological Agency stated that the waters near Amami Oshima were in the area affected by Typhoon Mesak.

  Subsequently, the Japan Coast Guard and others launched search and rescue operations.

The Ministry of Defense of Japan said that on the night of the 3rd local time, the Japanese Maritime Self-Defense Force found a Filipino crew member wearing a life jacket floating in the sea.

It is said that the rescued person is in good health and is not life-threatening.

  According to reports, there were 43 crew members on board the missing cargo ship, who were from Australia, New Zealand and the Philippines.
