This year, RFI has a special correspondent at the heart of the peloton.

Pierre-Luc Périchon, from the Cofidis team, regularly gives us his impressions on current topics.

In this second episode of his logbook, the experienced French adventurer talks about the abandonment after a fall of his teammate Anthony Pérez and the health precautions put in place this year during the race.

Emotional lift

“

At the time, when I heard on the radio that Anthony had fallen, I was pale, disgusted, I said to myself: m ***!

He had done the job, he had secured the polka-dot jersey (note: a few kilometers before his fall, Pérez had taken first place at the top of a hill, taking the lead in the climbers' classification), and then, nothing.

It's sad for him because the Tour is the goal of a season.

It's also sad for the team: we start with 8 runners, we create links, and then in a few seconds, we are orphaned by a runner.

It's mentally painful, but the most important thing is that Anthony is in good health, especially since the first information was a little worrying.

We have had recent rather reassuring news and that is the main point.

The cycle race in times of pandemic, a new routine

There is no psychosis within the peloton, in any case no changes in the habits of the riders.

We have all been tested twice, six days and three days before departure and we must be re-tested every day of rest or at the slightest symptom.

In all, since the resumption of races at the beginning of August, I must have been there about ten times, it's becoming a routine, and it doesn't bother me more than that.

It's more difficult to learn to keep our distance from the public.

For example, we should not give away our cans, and yet people keep asking us for them.

It's a little frustrating to have to refuse things that are usually natural to us.
