“A specialized laboratory of the Bundeswehr has come to a clear and unequivocal conclusion that Alexei Navalny was a victim of poisoning with a military nerve agent from the Novichok group,” she said at a press conference.

According to her, Navalny became a "victim of a crime."

Merkel noted that on behalf of the entire German government she condemns the incident.

Earlier, the German government issued a statement that Navalny was exposed to a substance from the Novichok group.

Russian Ambassador to Berlin Sergei Nechaev was invited to a conversation at the German Foreign Ministry, where the position of the German side was expressed to him.

In the Kremlin, commenting on the situation, they were categorically against sticking labels. 

They emphasized that they are no less interested than others in finding out the reasons for what happened.
