Lebanese President Michel Aoun appointed Mustafa Adib as the new prime minister on August 31 and authorized him to form a cabinet.

  Earlier in the day, Aoun negotiated with all parties in the parliament on the candidate for the new prime minister. Adib received support from 90 of the 128 seats in the parliament.

Aoun then appointed Adib as the new prime minister.

  Adib said at a press conference held after his appointment that he hopes to form a new government as soon as possible to implement the necessary reforms quickly.

He called on all parties in Lebanon to unite and cooperate and work together to restore Lebanon's prosperity.

  Adib is 48 years old and served as the former prime minister Najib Mikati's office director from 2011 to 2013. Since 2013, he has been Lebanese ambassador to Germany.

  A violent explosion occurred in the port area of ​​Beirut, the capital of Lebanon, on August 4, resulting in at least 190 deaths and more than 6,500 injuries.

The then Prime Minister Hassan Diab announced the collective resignation of the government on August 10.
