Amendments to the "Labor Law" will come into effect on 25 September

The Federal Decree-Law No. (6) of 2020 amending some provisions of Federal Law No. (8) of 1980 regarding the regulation of labor relations, recently issued by His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the State, will enter into force on September 25.

The first article of the Decree-Law that was issued on August 25th stipulates that the text of Article (32) of Federal Law No. (8) of 1980 shall be replaced by the following text: “Women shall be granted a wage similar to that of men if they do the same work, or Another of equal value, which is issued by a decision of the Council of Ministers - based on a proposal from the Minister of Human Resources and Emiratisation, the procedures, controls and standards necessary for evaluating work of equal value.

The decree stipulates that a worker in the private sector shall be granted a paid “parental leave” for a period of five working days to care for his child, due from the date of the child's birth until the completion of six months.

The decree-law aims to enhance the leadership of the state, raise its competitiveness in the field of gender balance, achieve family cohesion and stability, and encourage young talents to engage in work in the private sector. The mother »is in the care of the child, and it is paid.

Article 3 stipulates that the Decree-Law shall be published in the Official Gazette and shall be enforced after one month from the date of its issuance.
