If all countries did as Portugal did, the climate crisis would be resolved. The country is well on its way to achieving the Paris Agreement's climate goals. A major investment in pioneering green technology is behind it. Sixty percent of the country's electricity comes from renewable energy and in a few months the country will close its last two coal-fired power plants.
The Portuguese government has strong support from voters for its green restart.
The reason is that Portugal is one of Europe's most vulnerable countries to the climate crisis.
The country is already suffering from rising sea levels and drought, July 2020 became the hottest month since the measurements began.
And it has long been affected by Europe's worst forest fires.
