• Executive.Idoia Mendia confirms that she "rolls up her sleeves" in the face of the crisis and will be part of the new Government of Iñigo Urkullu

  • Agreement.PNV and the Socialist Party justify their agreement on "reconstruction" without agreeing to reform the Statute

Andoni Ortuzar,

Idoia Mendia

and Iñigo Urkullu have signed with a mask and almost a meter away the

Government agreement

that guarantees the nationalist lehendakari his first absolute majority since 2012 and which is the first after 22 years of minority governments in the Basque Country.

An image that repeats the agreement signed in October 2016 but in a diametrically opposite political, social and economic scenario.

The president of the PNV has acknowledged that they will not provide the full content of the pact until next Thursday after the experience of 2016 when it was "destroyed" by the opposition parties.

The most predictable government pact in the political history of the Basque Country continues to contain hidden aspects such as the content itself.

Mendia, Ortuzar and Urkullu have signed -each one with his pen- three copies of

the signed commitments that will be detailed by the Lehendakari next Thursday

in the full inauguration.

Mendia, who has confirmed tonight that she will be part of the Basque Executive and has shown herself smiling with Ortuzar before the media, has refused to clarify whether she will be vice-president or councilor and what specific area she will perform under Iñigo Urkullu.

"The entry of Idoia Mendia will be an opportunity to give the institution a higher rank," Ortuzar remarked to deny any kind of suspicion about the presence of the leader of the Basque Socialists in the Urkullu Executive.

Ortuzar and Mendia have recognized that the two parties leave open the negotiation on the reform of the

Statute of Gernika

that began in 2012. The PNV came to agree with EH Bildu on a text of bases and proposals with a 'new sovereign status' but it qualified its content during the technical processing carried out by five experts.

The signed pact calls for a "more and better self-government" that leaves in the air any forecast on how the pending statutory reform will be.

"An agreement for hope", Mendia stressed in the face of the uncertain socioeconomic scenario facing the Basque Country after years of economic growth.

Both Ortuzar and Mendia have agreed on the objective of both parties to close a

quick agreement

after the electoral results of July 12.

"We are facing the greatest crisis in the last 100 years," insisted the leader of the Basque Socialists with her reinforced role as a member of the Executive.

Ortuzar has ruled out using the roll of the absolute majority made up of the 41 PNV and PSE-EE parliamentarians and has announced that "we are reaching out to collaborate with EH Bildu, Elkarrekin Podemos and the Popular Party", thus leaving

out that invitation to Vox

, party with a parliamentarian in the Basque Chamber.

Ortuzar has asked the rest of the opposition parties to "rise to the occasion."

An idea also stressed by Idoia Mendia who has highlighted that part of the government agreement includes proposals approved in the Basque Parliament by other political forces in the previous legislature.

"With Vox we do not share anything", has assured Ortuzar while Mendia has affirmed that the party of Abascal maintains a political project located in the "antipodes" with the PSE-EE.
