Last week, there was a majority in the committee for the university entrance exam to be conducted.

It consisted of M, KD, SD and L.

Today, the committee voted against that initiative.

It could happen after the Liberals changed their minds.

- The infection control mode is like that.

There are 22 authorities who said that the test can not be carried out and it received a majority in the committee, says Gunilla Svantorp (S).

Raised hope

Last week, Minister of Higher Education Matilda Ernkrans (S) raised hope among those who want to take the test this autumn by examining the possibility that only those who have never written the test before would be allowed to do so.

Ahead of today's committee meeting, the rectors of the country's universities wrote in a debate article that the university entrance examination cannot be carried out due to considerable risks of infection.

On Tuesday, the committee had talks with Minister of Higher Education Matilda Ernkrans by telephone.

Svantorp does not want to go into what the minister will now do.

"One is guilty"

According to the Moderates' education policy spokesperson Kristina Axén Olin, it is clear that the university entrance exam will not take place this autumn.

- It is a person who is guilty of not having a university entrance exam.

It's Matilda Ernkrans, says Axén Olin.

- This has been really badly handled by the government and now it is considered too late and impossible.

Axén Olin believes that Ernkrans should have given the universities the tools that were in demand already in April, May.

- It has not been done.

The possibility of taking in more premises or more guards has not been investigated.

The money that was requested several months ago by the universities has not been promised, says Axén Olin.

Under pressure

The university entrance exam has put the government under some pressure.

No one questioned that the spring test was set in the strained corona mode.

But when the Swedish Council for Universities and University Colleges (UHR) announced a few weeks ago that the autumn exams could not be carried out in a contagious manner either, criticism was raised.

Four parties - the Liberals, the Moderates, the Christian Democrats and the Sweden Democrats - demanded last week that the government ensure that there will be a test this autumn, and voted last week through the Education Committee taking the initiative in the matter.
