The survey is assisted by truck drivers and other volunteers, so-called crowdsourcing.

Via an app in the phone, it is possible to report where a foreign truck is at a certain time.

- Then we can generate a very good picture of what it really looks like on Swedish roads today, says researcher Henrik Sternberg, who today works at Iowa State University in the USA.

By extension, the purpose is to research how the so-called cabotage traffic is conducted.

Cabotagerglerna is a set of rules that regulates how foreign trucks may work with domestic goods when they drive in Sweden.

- There is no one who keeps statistics on how many foreign trucks we have in Sweden, says Sternberg.

The only way to find out is to use all the drivers' eyes on the roads.

The information is then used to write scientific reports, which can become factual basis for politicians and lobby organizations, among others.
