Christian Estrosi on Monday called on the right to make “an agreement with Emmanuel Macron” for the 2022 presidential election. The mayor of Nice, however, wants this agreement to be made subject to conditions.
Make Macron "our common candidate"
"So as not to spoil all the talents of the right, let's make an agreement with Emmanuel Macron so that he is our common presidential candidate and that they can participate in the recovery of our country," he explained in an interview with
Figaro
.
For the mayor Les Républicains de Nice and president of the Nice-Côte d'Azur agglomeration, “this must be done on the basis of a common project”.
For him, agreement is possible between LREM and LR if Emmanuel Macron takes up the commitments of the right on “security”, calling on him to “act with force to establish authority and order”, and on “ health ”.
"For me, this solution is the only way not to give up our values and our ideas", believes Christian Estrosi, specifying that no candidate "is imposed naturally" on the right.
Not everyone will hear it that way.
This position taken by one of the tenors of the right comes indeed while several executives of the Republicans are making their mark for 2022: Bruno Retailleau, Xavier Bertrand, Valérie Pécresse or even François Baroin, who must clarify his intentions to the autumn.
