His government will have the particular mission of paving the way for North Macedonia's accession to the European Union and NATO. Social Democrat leader Zoran Zaev regained the post of Prime Minister following a vote in Parliament on Sunday approving his coalition agreement with the country's main Albanian party (DUI). He had already ruled the country from May 31, 2017 to January 3, 2020.

Order, justice and discipline

The agreement provides that Zoran Zaev will cede his post to a member of the Albanian minority for a period of one hundred days after the expiration of the four-year term of the new government and before the next elections. "A period of order, justice and discipline opens," declared the Prime Minister in front of the Parliament, which approved by 62 votes out of 120 the coalition agreement, after two days of heated debates.

The Social Democrats won a very narrow victory over the nationalist camp in the legislative elections in July, with 46 of the 120 seats in Parliament. The poll was the first since Zoran Zaev's government added the term “northern” to the country's name in order to resolve a conflict with Greece.
