August 30, 2020 Over 600 requests for intervention arrived at the fire brigade operating rooms due to the new wave of bad weather that hit the Veneto region in the afternoon, especially the province of Vicenza and Verona, but also affected Treviso, Belluno and Padua. Particularly affected in the Vicenza area are the municipalities of Arzignano and Trissino with strong gusts of wind and two tornadoes that caused the fall of trees, road signs, antennas that blocked the streets and caused the roofing of hundreds of homes and businesses. In Verona, the work of the fire brigade teams has continued uninterrupted since last Sunday due to bad weather. More than 200 rescue interventions for unsafe trees, flooding, removal of unsafe elements have been carried out today. Interventions also in many other municipalities throughout the region.

The state of emergency must be extended
The governor of Veneto Luca Zaia was on an inspection in the Vicenza area, one of the areas most affected yesterday by the new wave of bad weather, with a tornado that only in Arzignano caused damage to 150 homes and dozens of industrial warehouses and public infrastructures. It was from here that the verification of the damages that Zaia carried out together with the mayor of Arzignano, Alessia Bevilacqua, the regional councilors Lanzarin and Bottacin, and the president of the Province of Vicenza, as well as mayor of the capital, Francesco Rucco, began. Zaia said that he had already updated the head of the Civil Protection, Angelo Borrelli, on the situation, announcing an inspection for Tuesday, "Once again we are on our knees due to bad weather - said Zaia - For the Vicenza area I will do an extension of the state of emergency from Verona, so that even these events fall within the adverse weather conditions of this period, after which we will do the damage count ".

We will present the bill in Rome
"This is a single system of perturbations, the weather maps tell us, which first hit Verona and then massacred the rest of Veneto. For us it is a single state of crisis, a package whose account we will present in Rome, asking for an answer in a very short time, it means hours ". Thus the governor Luca Zaia: "In the face of the damage to businesses, to what is the beating heart of Italy brought to its knees, someone who responds quickly is needed. This is a territory that gives 150 billion GDP per year, cannot be answered with an 'yes, but, however ...', these are things we don't want to hear ".

Scenes from tragedy
"These scenes of devastation - concluded Zaia - I saw them with the whirlwind of the Riviera del Brenta in 2015, with the storm Vaia. We are in the target of the great tragedies caused by atmospheric adversities, certainly not here. 'it was a sweep of wind ... ". "In Florida if you have to build a house they ask you for ultrasound tests, here we weren't used to things like that."

Val Policella devastated
"Speaking of agriculture, the devastation of Valpolicella the other day meant for us almost 20 million euros in damage. Here we need resources, money". "Another storm, a whirlwind with winds above 150 km / h, a dramatic toll, 150 damaged homes, dozens of warehouses, public infrastructures and therefore I would say that once again we are on our knees". "The only positive fact is that there are no injuries, for the rest of the damage there are many".
