August 30, 2020 "I ask to declare Lebanon as a secular state". The president, Michel Aoun, said this during a live TV speech on the eve of the centenary of the proclamation of the Lebanese state. "Since I am convinced that only a secular state is able to protect pluralism, to preserve it by transforming it into a real unity, I ask that Lebanon be declared a secular state", Aoun said on the eve of the second visit of French President Emmanuel Macron. which pushes for a reform of the confessional system. Aoun therefore pledged to "ask for dialogue between religious authorities and political leaders to arrive at a formula acceptable to all and which can be implemented through appropriate constitutional amendments". 

Hezbollah: "Ready to discuss political pact"
