The room is 300 square meters - in the middle of Tärnaby - and opens its doors to the public on Monday. The first exhibition consists of pictures and glass art by the artist Tomas Colbengtson from Tärnaby.

According to project manager Oskar Östergren Njajta, work on the new Sami cultural center has been delayed due to covid and the premises have not yet been completed.

- We are fantastically happy to open the doors, even if the premises are not completely ready, says Oskar Östergren Njajta to SVT.

The municipality of Storuman is the principal for the project, but the money also comes from the Västerbotten Region, the Swedish Council for Culture and the Sami Parliament. In total, the budget is SEK 2.5 million per year. In the long run, they hope to be able to build a Sami museum.

- The main purpose of the center is to become a meeting place. We can have courses and workshops, there are conference rooms and other workplaces, as well as a sound studio. It will be a creative place, says Oskar Östergren Njajta.
