SD in Bromölla has gone out and sought support from the Social Democrats, the Moderates and the local party Alternativet - and offered the Social Democrats the municipal council post.

- Governing in the minority is difficult and the Sweden Democrats will not put themselves in that situation again, says Magnus Persson (SD), chairman of the City Council, and continues:

- It is better that we put party politics aside a bit to find a broad majority. Ultimately, we agree on approximately 85 percent of municipal issues. The issues we do not agree on, we may raise to the council and vote. I see no problem with that.

If it is not a problem - why has it been a problem to govern as you have done now, if you still agree on so many issues?

- We have had to seek support in every single issue from all other parties. What I mean is that we should have an electoral cooperation where it is quite clear what guidelines we should have.

But why would it be easier to agree like that?

- It goes without saying. Then we can sit down in peace and quiet and discuss the issues from the ground up. That is not the case today.

"Cooperation with SD no alternative"

The Social Democrats do not agree with SD's proposal for cooperation.

- We will not cooperate with the Sweden Democrats. This is not an option for our party. It must be fundamental that you have the same view of things, says Jenny Önnevik (S), the municipal board's first vice chairman.

- We see that the Sweden Democrats must take responsibility for this. They can form a majority government together with other parties, Jenny Önnevik continues.

If they choose not to do so now that you say no to their proposal - are you prepared to govern in the minority?

- We have ruled in the minority before. It's not optimal - but it works and it has worked. But as I said, it is too early to say, it is the Sweden Democrats who still have to take responsibility for this.

How are the residents of Bromölla affected by the political situation in the municipality?

- It's downright unfortunate. It is not good for the municipality and not for the municipality's employees. The situation now is critical.
