28 August 2020The carcass of a sperm whale between 7 and 8 meters long was discovered yesterday about 15 meters from the beach of Su Bardoni, in the waters of the Sinis in Cabras, near Oristano.

Some people on the beach spotted her by some bathers who immediately called the authorities. On the spot arrived the men of the Coast Guard who delimited the area and the experts of the marine protected area of Sinis, with the director Massimo Marras. "The carcass has not yet reached the shore - Marras himself told ANSA - so at the moment it is not easy to start all operations, including disposal".

The Coast Guard has requested the intervention of the Local Health Authority and the Zooprophylactic Institute of Sassari which will carry out some samples to establish the causes of the death of the cetacean. The sperm whale is in an advanced state of decomposition, so it won't be easy.

A few days ago the carcass was spotted off the coast of Bosa, then the current dragged it to Cabras. Now we will have to wait for the current to push it to the shore and only then will the disposal operations begin. The area is controlled by the Port Authority which has also issued an order prohibiting the passage of boats.
