“Our deployment in the Baltic region on the territory of NATO allies is defensive in nature and preceded the crisis in Belarus,” RIA Novosti quoted her as saying.

According to Lungescu, NATO plans exercises and training processes in advance.

"Like, for example, deploying (reconnaissance and guidance. - RT ) NATO AWACS to support (fighters. -  RT ) US and Polish F-16s during exercises," she said.

Earlier, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko said that NATO had deployed 18 American F-16 fighters to the border of the republic.

He noted that "a serious stirring of NATO troops" is taking place on the territory of Poland and Lithuania.

On August 20, the head of the Belarusian Defense Ministry ordered to conduct large-scale tactical exercises in the Grodno direction. The combat units of the Belarusian army on the western borders were brought to combat readiness.
