  • The buses and trams of the Compagnie des transports strasbourgeois (CTS) will be free for the next six Saturdays.
  • The measure was voted on during the Eurometropolis council on Friday morning.
  • It aims to encourage users to "take or resume the path of public transport, a credible alternative to the car" explains the elected Alain Jund.

Good news, the buses and trams of the Compagnie des transports strasbourgeois (CTS) will be free for the next six Saturdays. From August 29 therefore. A measure carried by the vice-president in charge of mobility Alain Jund and which was voted in council of the Eurometropolis this Friday. “This is a request that is part of a broader approach with the desire to review transport pricing, an approach to initiate a new era in mobility in the Eurometropolis, with the development of the tram, transport on demand, cycle paths, etc. ”, welcomed the elected official.

"It is a sign to encourage users to take or resume the path of public transport in complete confidence and safety," explains Alain Jund. This aims to give a credible alternative to the car, to facilitate the start of the school year, for students as well as for traders and people who come from outside the city. Another reason put forward, compensation after the end of parking which was free until August 16. "This is an opportunity to promote changes in modes of travel, because a lot is done at the start of the school year", concludes the elected.

Encourage users and make them regain confidence

And to add more to this incentive, P + R parking lots will also be free on Saturdays. What to encourage the inhabitants of the Eurometropolis but also those who come from outside to use them. The last free Saturday will be October 3, which will give traders a little extra boost because it will be the day of the big clearance sale. Day which also coincides with a public holiday in Germany.

The loss of revenue from occasional titles for a Saturday by the CTS being estimated at 45,000 euros, it will therefore amount for the six Saturdays to 270,000 euros (more precisely estimated at 230,000 because attendance is lower during this Covid period). On the other hand, this free service will only concern occasional travelers because there will be no compensation for subscribers. A free ride that is good, because tomorrow Saturday, the extension of line F of the tram will be officially put into service. Enough to go for a little trip to Koenigshoffen ...
