Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, 65, plans to announce Friday his intention to resign due to health concerns, according to several Japanese media, without citing a source.

According to the public television channel NHK, the head of government, caught up with his old chronic intestinal disease, expressed his "intention to resign to avoid disrupting the national political scene". Shinzo Abe has been in his post uninterrupted since late 2012, a longevity record for a Japanese prime minister
