Erdogan expressed readiness to defend Turkey's interests in the Mediterranean

"During the talks on the events in the Eastern Mediterranean, our president noted that Turkey will continue to defend its rights and interests," the TASS communiqué quoted.

Earlier, the EU threatened Turkey with sanctions for illegal drilling activities in the Eastern Mediterranean.

The Turkish Foreign Ministry responded by saying that the EU has no right to criticize the country's exploration activities on its own continental shelf.
