US government warns of North Korean fund-raising cyberattacks August 27, 10:09

The U.S. government has called on each country to warn that North Korea has launched a cyber attack targeting foreign banks since February to obtain funds.

The US Department of Homeland Security and the FBI = Federal Bureau of Investigation issued a joint statement on the 26th and issued a warning against North Korea's cyber attacks.

According to this, North Korean hacker groups have been conducting cyber attacks targeting banks in multiple countries since February this year.

Although details such as the damage have not been disclosed, the statement said the hacker group stole 81 million dollars from the bank of Bangladesh, about 8.5 billion yen in Japanese yen four years ago, and Japan since 2015. He points out that it is highly likely that a cyber attack has been launched targeting financial institutions in more than 30 countries, including the US, calling for caution in each country.

It warns that the funds obtained from cyber attacks could be used to fund the development of nuclear weapons and ballistic missiles banned by the United Nations.

In addition, the statement also stipulates measures to be taken by hacker groups that send fake emails to invade the other party's computer system, and demand that measures be taken.

The hacker group is said to be under the command of the "Directorate of Reconnaissance" in charge of secret operations of North Korea, and the US government announced last year that it will be subject to sanctions.
