The toll is heavy with one dead and five injured, two of them seriously. A fire broke out on Wednesday afternoon at the Valorys waste incineration plant in Pluzunet in the Côtes-d'Armor, we learned from the firefighters and the Saint-Brieuc prosecutor's office. “There was a fire during a maintenance operation near the turbines. An employee, born in 1974, died and five people were injured, including two more seriously but their vital prognosis is not engaged ”, indicated the public prosecutor of Saint-Brieuc.

The two seriously injured, poisoned by carbon monoxide, were transported by helicopter to the CHU of Brest, while the three others, more slightly intoxicated, were taken to the hospital of Lannion.

Hot oil sprayed on employees

An investigation was entrusted to the Lannion research brigade. “We don't know exactly what happened. According to one of the hypotheses, there was a failure on a turbine which was stopped and would have restarted during the maintenance operation. She would have projected hot oil around her, ”said the Côtes-d'Armor firefighters.

In addition to a Dragon 29 helicopter, around forty firefighters were mobilized, according to the prefecture.
