In the search, the police cooperate with the Coast Guard's rescue divers. In the sea outside Karlskrona, the divers are for several hours below the water surface to investigate the places that the police have pointed out.

- You lose the temperature. This is perhaps one of the biggest concerns for us, says Erik Svensson.

Finely comb the seabed

He is usually stationed at the Coast Guard in Oskarshamn. But now he has been moved to Karlskrona to be part of the work team behind the effort that is combing the seabed after the missing man in his 55s.

He says that a lot of experience and preparation is required for this type of assignment.

- Before assignments to find a missing person, you practice with dolls, for example. Once the mission begins, I feel like a hunting dog. I want to be the one who finds what we are looking for and succeeds with the assignment, says Erik Svensson.

"Efficient to use"

In the operation, the divers now use advanced technical equipment. They have access to one of the Coast Guard's two robots of the remote-controlled underwater vehicle type, so-called ROV (remotely operated underwater vehicle), which has been used in the search.

- It is a robot that searches the bottom with a camera instead of having to dive yourself. They are effective and good to use. Then there is no risk of anyone being injured, says Erik Svensson.
