"Washington's desire to impose on the world its erroneous reading of UN Security Council Resolution 2231 and to evade responsibility for gross violations of its obligations has met with neither understanding nor support in the UN Security Council," the text says.

The Foreign Ministry clarified that many members of the Security Council did not recognize the right of the United States to initiate the process of restoring sanctions against Iran.

"The American side was clearly pointed out to the legal and procedural nullity of its actions, which have nothing to do with the task of maintaining international peace and security and, therefore, cannot lead to a" restart "of long-canceled resolutions," the statement says.

The Foreign Ministry stressed that the American initiative has neither prospects nor legal consequences.

Earlier, Russia's Permanent Representative to the UN, Vasily Nebenzya, expressed the hope that the United States would no longer seek to restore sanctions against Iran.

On August 21, American leader Donald Trump announced the US intention to restore sanctions against Iran.

The head of EU diplomacy, Josep Borrell, said that the United States cannot launch the procedure for restoring sanctions against Iran.

Great Britain, France and Germany also opposed the US intention to sanction Iran.
