An investigation has been opened. A few hours later, a police operation is carried out. On Wednesday evening, the police went to a sensitive area of Grenoble where hooded and heavily armed dealers recently staged themselves in videos widely shared on social networks.

This operation, which began in the early evening in the Mistral district - particularly affected by drug trafficking - was simultaneously announced on Twitter by the Minister of the Interior Gerald Darmanin.

On my direct instruction, a police operation is underway in the Mistral, at #Grenoble. Thank you to the forces mobilized to impose the republican order, the only one that protects. No doubt should remain: the State will impose itself in the face of the enslavement of a minority of society

"These are operations that we do regularly," the prefect of Isère, Lionel Beffre, told BFMTV on site. “Since the beginning of the year, we have made 160 arrests in this neighborhood,” he added, while the operation was still underway in the middle of the evening.

But after the videos were broadcast, "it was important to reaffirm the authority of the State in this territory," continued the prefect. "It does not belong to any group whatsoever to make the law, it belongs to the police", which alone "have the capacity to be armed in public space and on the public highway".
