The couple was reported missing from their home on Tuesday evening and were last seen at 6 pm, when driving in a car.
During the night, the police had a search for the couple and on Wednesday morning, the rescue service was alerted about a car in the water at Sturkö outside Karlskrona.
Shortly after 08 o'clock, the rescue service confirmed that two people had been found in the water.
- We are on site and have picked up two people who have been confirmed dead, says Jonas Kullberg, operations manager at the rescue service in Östra Blekinge.
Later in the morning on Wednesday, the police were able to confirm that the two people found are the missing couple. Their relatives have been notified.
As the police can not rule out crime, the site is now cordoned off and a technical investigation will be carried out.
