In Côte d'Ivoire, the courts have decided to permanently remove Laurent Gbagbo from the electoral lists. The platform of support for the former president, Ensemble pour la Démocratie et la Souveraineté (EDS), reacted on August 26 afternoon at the party's headquarters. Unsurprisingly, she rejected this decision. But, more surprisingly, she assured not to give up a candidacy of Laurent Gbagbo next October.

The announcement was short but very direct. It was made by the president of the coalition, Georges Armand Ouegnin, in the presence of executives and a handful of activists. EDS [Ensemble pour la Démocratie et la Souveraineté] considers that the radiation of Laurent Gbagbo is a pure political maneuver to prevent his return to Côte d'Ivoire by an instrumentalisation of justice  ". This is what has been stated.

As such, the support platform denounced "  settling of scores  " and let it be known that it "  would never accept an unjustified delisting of its candidate  ". Above all, she announced that she was not giving up on a possible candidacy of Laurent Gbagbo for the presidential election next October and that she would submit her file according to the procedures planned.

EDS, the pro-Gbagbo platform, is not giving up Laurent #Gbagbo's candidacy despite his removal from the electoral rolls and will submit his file to the Electoral Commission. #CiV

Activists mention the date of August 31. We must nevertheless remain cautious since Laurent Gbagbo himself has not yet spoken publicly on this possibility. According to Ivorian justice, Laurent Gbagbo has been deprived of his civil rights since his sentence to 20 years in prison for the case of the “ breakage of the BCEAO . An unfounded procedure and riddled with procedural flaws according to his supporters, who therefore consider the exclusion of the former candidate as null and void.
