The series continues. The research brigade of the gendarmerie of Le Mans was seized of an investigation for acts of cruelty on animals after the discovery of a dead calf mutilated on Saturday in the Sarthe, we learned from the prosecution.

The calf was found dead in a field with “the right ear cut off and lacerations on its genitals,” the Le Mans prosecutor's office told AFP. The facts undoubtedly occurred on the night of Friday to Saturday, according to the owner.

First case in Sarthe

"Given the national phenomenon of animal abuse that has been highlighted, the research brigade of Le Mans was seized of this case of acts of cruelty on an animal," said the prosecution. "However, this is the first case reported in the Sarthe department and, to our knowledge, the first case on a calf, the cases of abuse identified having mainly affected horses", the same source said. .

The prosecution indicated that there was "no track for the moment".

Mainly horses

At the end of June, a note from the Central Territorial Intelligence Service, mentioned by Le Parisien, listed at least eleven similar facts about horses in France between December 2018 and summer 2020. And the phenomenon is accelerating: on the night of 1 to August 2, a chestnut pony was found dead and mutilated in Essonne. On August 8, she was an 18-month-old filly in Cluny (Saône-et-Loire): "one ear cut off and one eye torn off, the heart stabbed and the vagina removed" according to her owners for whom the animal was caught. lasso.

In recent days, a mare has suffered such abuse in the Jura and a thoroughbred has been slaughtered in the Côtes-d'Armor, while organs were taken from a horse already dead in the Loire.

Previously, the Puy-de-Dôme, Moselle, Vendée, Aisne or Seine-Maritime were affected. Investigations are open, entrusted to local gendarmes supported by the Central Office for the fight against environmental and public health attacks.
