The Roads and Transport Authority and the Dubai Air Navigation Services Corporation (DANS) have signed a memorandum of understanding in the field of cooperation and coordination between the two sides in the field of autonomous air vehicles, as part of the authority's strategy in exchanging experiences and knowledge with government and semi-government agencies, in areas of competence with common goals. .
The Executive Director of the Public Transport Corporation and the head of the Autonomous Aerial Vehicle Project Team at the Authority, Ahmed Hashem Bahruzian, said that the memorandum aims to cooperate and coordinate in studying legislation and laws related to the field of autonomous air vehicles, and the participation of the two parties in the workshops and activities organized by both sides.
He pointed out that the memorandum serves related development and innovation research, determining air routes for vehicles, as well as joint work to raise the level of safety and security for transport and communications within the geographical borders of the Emirate of Dubai, by attracting and applying the latest technologies in the field, in addition to the commitment of the two parties to facilitate procedures and exchange knowledge about Specialized and developed companies in this field, test programs, specifications of the takeoff and landing sites of vehicles, and others.
He added that the memorandum of understanding comes within the framework of the strengthening measures of the Dubai Strategy for Self-Driving Intelligent Mobility, which aims to convert 25% of Dubai's mobility trips to self-driving trips through various means of transportation by 2030, in addition to achieving integration between mass transport and enhancing Happiness among the population, by providing easy, fast and innovative transportation and transportation channels.
For his part, Deputy Executive Director of «PANs», Ibrahim Ahli, said that cooperation with the Roads and Transport Authority will enhance the objectives of the strategies and directions of the leadership in the field of smart mobility, and support for self-driving means, stressing that air vehicles constitute a major axis in the vision of the state and the Emirate of Dubai.
