On August 24, 2020, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with reporters after a meeting with Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Economic Affairs Sijaldo in Beihai, Guangxi.

Wang Yi said that the Foreign Minister of Sijaldo is the first EU foreign minister to visit China after China's epidemic prevention and control has entered the normalization stage. This visit is of landmark significance for the restoration of normal face-to-face exchanges between China and Hungary and between China and Europe and for promoting exchanges and cooperation in various fields to return to normal. At the same time, it also reflects the maturity, stability and resilience of the comprehensive strategic partnership between China and Hungary. During the talks between the two foreign ministers, the two sides reached broad consensus on issues of common concern such as strengthening anti-epidemic cooperation and raising the level of China-Hungary relations. We unanimously believe that the international situation under the epidemic situation is facing more uncertainties and instability, and it is also gestating new opportunities for the development of bilateral relations. As comprehensive strategic partners, China and Hungary must proceed from the fundamental interests of the two countries and their peoples, firmly grasp the historical trend, and continue to stand at the forefront of the times.

Wang Yi emphasized that we must be good friends who trust each other. The two sides agreed to strengthen high-level exchanges, continue strategic guidance, and deepen policy coordination, so that China-Hungary relations will be at the forefront of relations between China and countries in the region. No matter what challenges they face, the two countries will abide by the good tradition of mutual respect and equal treatment, and firmly support each other's efforts to defend sovereignty, security and development interests.

We must be good partners for mutual benefit and win-win results. China-Hungary cooperation has a solid foundation and strong momentum. Nothing can stop the two peoples from pursuing a happy life together. We will continue to promote the joint construction of the “Belt and Road” and China-CEEC cooperation, strive to innovate cooperation methods, expand cooperation space, and strive for more substantial results. We are pleased to see that the Hungarian section of the Hungary-Serbia Railway has made substantial progress and will work together to promote the construction of the project as soon as possible. China appreciates Hungary's objective and fair position on 5G and other issues. Both sides will work together to create a fairer, fairer, transparent and non-discriminatory business environment for companies from both countries to invest and start businesses.

We should be good "relatives" with people-to-people bonds. The Hungarian people are a nation from the East. Although the two countries are far apart, the people are in harmony with each other. We will continue to work together to strengthen the prevention and control of the epidemic and make new efforts to safeguard the health and well-being of the two peoples. Under the premise of doing a good job in the prevention and control of the epidemic, we will take more measures to facilitate personnel exchanges between the two countries and promote bilateral cooperation in culture, education, science and technology.

Wang Yi said that the world today is undergoing major changes unseen in a century, and the challenges facing human society are unprecedented. Unilateralism continues to challenge the current international order, protectionism is hindering the global economic cycle, and identity politics is increasingly eroding the unity of human society. In a sense, the harm caused by the political virus is greater than the impact of the epidemic. As a constructive force in the international community, China and Hungary will not stand alone. We must jointly uphold international fairness and justice, jointly defend and practice multilateralism, jointly safeguard the international system with the United Nations at its core, and jointly promote world multipolarization and democratization of international relations.
