  • The Rendez-vous de l'Erdre festival is maintained in a less ambitious form than in previous years.
  • The concerts take place until Sunday in 13 municipalities, including three sites in Nantes.
  • They remain free but accessible only by reservation.

It is the essential Nantes festival before each school year. Between 100,000 and 150,000 spectators usually attend the Rendez-vous de l'Erdre for its jazz concerts, its beautiful boats or its festive atmosphere. Except that, this year, due to the coronavirus, the event was almost canceled, like many festivals in France.

The organizers managed to keep it on its feet but in a new configuration, certainly less warm, but safer from a health point of view. This 34th edition, called “Les RDV (in) expected”, begins on Monday and ends on Sunday.

No installation on the docks in the city center

The main novelty is that there will be no stages, bars or kiosks on the quays of downtown Nantes. In order to avoid large gatherings, concerts will be offered in 12 neighboring towns of Erdre (Monday to Sunday) and three Nantes sites (from Friday): the exhibition center, the Beaujoire floral park and the moat of the castle of the Dukes of Brittany. "These concerts are free but accessible by reservation only, with gauges designed to implement an effective health system", explain the organizers.

The exhibition center stage will host a “jazz program in all its richness and variety”. The trumpeter Erik Truffaz, the cornettist Médéric Collignon and the guitarist Maxime Delpierre will be the main stars. The floral park will give pride of place to small groups (solo, duo, trio), while the moat of the castle will showcase “emerging artists from the department”.

Parade of boats to Jonelière

An “unexpected” musical program will also be deployed in the districts of Nantes, such as the Jardin Say, the Grand-Blottereau park, the Bout des Landes, the Capucins park, or even Transfert à Rezé.

As for the beautiful pleasure, it is not forgotten since a hundred boats will sail on the Erdre from Thursday. Barges, sail-oars, dinghies and keelboats will set off from Nort-sur-Erdre to reach Jonelière, at the Nantes nautical center, on Saturday afternoon (around 5.30pm). Exceptionally, no boat will push to Nantes city center. They will leave in the opposite direction towards Carquefou and Sucé-sur-Erdre on Sunday.
