Germany placed, on Monday, August 24, the Île-de-France regions, with Paris, and Provence-Alpes-Côte-d'Azur in risk zones due to the high number of cases of infections with the new coronavirus.

The German Foreign Ministry warns on its website against "tourist travel, not essential" to these regions, which means that travelers returning to Germany will have to undergo a drug test and observe a quarantine in waiting for the result.

The number of new Covid-19 infections in these regions exceeds the ceiling of 50 cases per 100,000 inhabitants over seven days, he explains.

In addition, the ministry also placed French Guiana in the category of regions at risk and "urgently advises against" any travel to other overseas territories.

Return of holidaymakers

The ministry has recently increased the number of warnings on travel, particularly to Brussels, part of the tourist coasts of Croatia or Spain, the favorite holiday destination of the Germans who go there each year by millions.

Germany is on the alert in the face of a growing second wave threat and Chancellor Angela Merkel last week ruled out any measure to ease current health rules, such as wearing masks on public transport, shops and restaurants.

Considered a model in its management of the Covid-19 pandemic in Europe, the country is also experiencing a resurgence of new infections, considered to be partly linked to the return of holidaymakers.
