Another police blunder? A police officer allegedly shot a black man seven times at point blank range this Sunday in Kenosha, Wisconsin (United States), several American media reported.

In a video that has gone viral, we see a black man, identified as Jacob Blake according to American officials, walking towards a vehicle, on foot and unarmed, followed by several police officers.

A demonstration to denounce police violence

As Jacob Blake opens the front door to enter the vehicle, one of the police officers shoots him several times in the back - seven according to witnesses - at close range. The man was transported in serious condition to a Milwaukee hospital, authorities said. An investigation has been opened and entrusted to an independent agency, according to Kenosha police.

The reasons for his confrontation with the police remain unclear. Some media claim Jacob Blake was interrupting a brawl when police arrived, while others said he was trying to get into a parked vehicle. A few hours later, clashes broke out between demonstrators and the police, on the sidelines of a demonstration at the scene of the tragedy to demand justice and denounce the police violence, according to several American media.

A protest is happening now after a domestic incident turned into an officer-involved shooting in #Kenosha at 40th St. & 28th Ave.

One more burr?

Wisconsin Gov. Tony Evers on Twitter on Sunday confirmed Jacob Blake had been "shot in the back several times" and opposed "excessive use of force and immediate escalation during his contacts with blacks in Wisconsin. "The governor also denounced the police violence:" Although we do not have all the details yet, what we know for sure is that he is not the first man or the first black person to have been shot, injured or mercilessly killed by law enforcement officials in our state or country ”.

Tonight, Jacob Blake was shot in the back multiple times, in broad daylight, in Kenosha, Wisconsin. Kathy and I join his family, friends, and neighbors in hoping earnestly that he will not succumb to his injuries.

While we do not have all of the details yet, what we know for certain is that he is not the first Black man or person to have been shot or injured or mercilessly killed at the hands of individuals in law enforcement in our state or our country .

“In the coming days, we will simply demand that of the elected officials of our state who have not recognized racism in our state and our country for too long,” he continued in a series of tweets.
