15 of 23 detainees in Peru’s “dance hall stampede” test positive for the new crown virus

On the 23rd local time, in response to the stampede in a ballroom in the Peruvian capital Lima this Saturday night, President Vizcarra urged the country’s prosecutors to investigate and severely punish the owners and operators of the venues involved. Vizcarra expressed regret and distress over the incident, and at the same time expressed anger at the organizers of such events "extremely irresponsible." It is understood that this is not the only place in the country that has illegal operations. In Lima and other cities in Peru, many places still organize gatherings during the period when the government bans gatherings and imposes a curfew.

On the same day, Peruvian Interior Minister Montoya stated that he had arrested the two owners of the place involved. In addition, according to the Peruvian police, after detaining 23 people at the scene on Saturday night, relevant departments conducted rapid tests for the new coronavirus in the first place. 15 of them tested positive and 3 people had bad police. According to records, another person is a minor.

According to an announcement issued by the Peruvian Ministry of Interior on the 23rd, a dance hall in the Los Olivos district in the north of Lima, the capital of the country, violated epidemic prevention regulations on the evening of the 22nd and held a gathering of about 120 people. After receiving the report, the local police stopped the report. The party tried to escape and flocked to the only exit of the ballroom, causing a stampede, killing at least 13 people and injuring 6 others. The announcement stated that the injured included three policemen who were injured while rescuing the trampled. The police did not use any weapons or tear gas at the scene.

In order to curb the rapid spread of the new crown epidemic, Peru has implemented new epidemic prevention regulations from the 16th of this month, including the restoration of home isolation every Sunday and prohibiting family gatherings and social gatherings. According to data released by the Peruvian Ministry of Health on the 22nd, Peru has a total of 576067 confirmed cases of new crown and a total of more than 27,000 deaths.
