The 25-year-old was arrested in May last year and then charged with suspicion of, among other things, aggravated extortion, attempted aggravated extortion, aggravated assault, aggravated weapon crime and drug offense.

He was acquitted in both the district court and the court of appeal and now wants compensation for the almost ten months he was detained. Through his lawyer, he applies for SEK 575,450 in compensation, for both suffering and loss of income.

"Writing in the media"

In the application, the 25-year-old's defense lawyer writes that the compensation should be set at a high amount when it comes to serious criminal suspicions and that the deprivation of liberty has given rise to "extensive writing in the media".

Considering that, and that the 25-year-old lost his job in connection with deprivation of liberty and has since been out of work, lawyer Martin Beskow believes that the compensation for suffering should not be less than SEK 300,000.

The 25-year-old is said to have lost SEK 275,450 in income during the time he was locked up, for which he also wants compensation.

More request compensation

Several men in the Västerås network have already requested compensation for the time they were detained before they were acquitted in the large blackmail scandal. Including a 19-year-old man, who demands SEK 680,000 in compensation, and a 23-year-old man who demands SEK 330,000 in compensation.
