- It is clear that there is support for mouth protection among the public. The largest proportion believe that mouth protection helps in the public space, says Torbjörn Sjöström who is the CEO of Novus.

When Novus asked 1002 people how likely they think that mouth guards in public places prevent the spread of infection, 43 percent answered that it is quite or very likely. Only 27 percent answered that it was not likely. There are clearly more people who believe in mouth protection than the other way around, that is.

Still, only 6 percent actually wear mouth guards, but as many as 36 percent state that they would start using mouth guards if more people did just that. According to Torbjörn Sjöström, this is a clear example of how the public adapts to the herd.

- Actually, you think that mouth protection works, but you do not want it unless everyone else has it. A bit of a shame factor. We do not want to be the only one with mouth protection even if we believe in it, says Torbjörn Sjöström.
