In the survey, young people stated that they spend an average of three hours a day with both social media, computer games and videos or series. According to Region Östergötland, this indicates that the total screen time is high.

- With distance education, increased sick leave and canceled leisure activities, screen time has probably increased further for many young people during the spring. This makes it extra important to find and regain a balance between activities that take place digitally and "in real life", says Emma Hjälte who is the coordinator for the survey in a press release.

Sleep deteriorates

According to the young people, they experience that too much screen time impairs sleep and increases sitting still. According to Region Östergötland's analysis of the survey results, physical activity, sleep, eating habits and weight deteriorate with increased screen time.

- The benefits of digital solutions and tools have become especially clear during the current crisis, but it is also important to support children and young people to a healthy and safe use, says Emma Hjälte.
