"I am aware of the difficulties of each moment and this is a complicated one, but that also makes it exciting." Concepción Cuca Gamarra (45) attends LOC after his appointment as PP spokesperson in the Congress of Deputies, in a controversial replacement for Cayetana Álvarez de Toledo.

Gamarra faces the change "with serenity, but positively and knowing that this is a great game: we cannot be in a better one to work for Spain and for the Spanish." His recipe, he advances, is "to be very close to the ground , to the reality that they are living today and that worries the Spanish". Thus, "we have to serve those who have voted for us, but also those who have not voted for us."

"Nobody received the year 2020 thinking that he was going to live everything we are experiencing," he says in relation to the pandemic. For this reason, the PP has to be "that parliamentary group that is in contact with reality, that listens to the people, to their neighbor on the landing, to their family."

"We are seeing how the minimum vital income has been approved, but today the thousands of Spaniards who trusted in this measure and that for that reason we have supported it as a party, do not charge it and, therefore, are in a limit situation. The economic crisis is already here, and it places us as the country in Europe that can remain behind again. And we have to promote measures in that direction. " And not only that: "The institutional and political crisis that we are experiencing in recent weeks, which worries us enormously and in which we are going to be the guarantee and endorsement of the constitutional framework."

Regarding the departure of Álvarez de Toledo, he does not want to enter into evaluations. "All my colleagues know perfectly well that we owe ourselves to something that is above ourselves, which is our country, our voters and the Spanish," he explains. And it shows its support for "the decisions made by the president" Pablo Casado.

The major criticisms of Gamarra's appointment have come from sectors of the PP's own voters, who blame Gamarra for attending (and calling to attend) the 8-M demonstration . "It doesn't matter what ideology a woman has and who she votes to decide if she wants to attend a demonstration because she shares that this is a fair fight," the spokeswoman clarifies.

"Also, there is something that I do not like and that is that they tell me what I cannot do, that someone expels a political party or specific ideas from something that should not be politicized. Women should be able to go, regardless of our political ideology , to demonstrations, gatherings or any act in which equality is discussed ".

However, "this March 8 is different due to the consequences that it has subsequently had. That is, it was allowed by the Government when it had information that those of us who went there, -except the Government, as we have learned later, did not know. ". To settle the issue: "I do not buy the mantra of the left that only they defend the fight for equality or against gender violence. I have no complex and nobody throws me where they think I want to be. And I do not accept lessons from the left in relation to what the fight for equality between men and women is ". And he gives as an example the breaking of the glass ceiling that meant being named mayor of Logroño (2011-2019) or "the work of the PP against gender violence."

On the other hand, the change in the spokesperson has been applauded from socialism, by positions such as the president of Navarra, María Chivite. "You have to get out of the trenches and President Casado has said that: 'You have to go to the squares," she says. "We are also at a time of a lot of tension and a lot of noise. Populists and radicals are more interested in a trench country than one of peace and coexistence. But the Spain that the Spanish want is second."
